Mercy De Souza is a lecturer with the University of Professional Studies and a registered Psychologist in Ghana. Mercy’s experience with NGO work started with the Ghana Guinea Worm Project in 1992. She has also worked in administrative capacities with the United States Peace Corps (a volunteering organization) in Burkina Faso and Ghana. She further worked with the P.E.A.C.E (People’s Education, Assistance and Counselling for Empowerment) Center in Windhoek-Namibia as a psychological counsellor in trauma counselling for Youth and Children.
With the P.E.A.C.E Center, her responsibilities extended to acting as a group mentor and guardian for youth affected or infected with HIV/AIDs. Mercy’s passion for working with youth and children made her volunteer as a group mentor for immigrant youth with the International Christian Church of Berlin while studying in Germany. Currently in Ghana, Mercy is pursuing her passion, working as a volunteer counsellor in the academic sphere and in her locality with the understanding that there are inherent transformational processes in all human beings. Given the right supportive environment and counselling, these natural processes will enable the healthy development of our youth and children.
